Formerly the residence of Lord Clive of India, Walcot Hall is a Georgian masterpiece steeped in history. The stunning turquoise Ballroom, eclectic furnishings, and family-owned charm make it one of the most distinctive venues near Shrewsbury. With its striking décor and enchanting atmosphere, Walcot Hall promises a wedding experience that stands out from the rest.
Walcot Hall offers multiple options for civil ceremonies and blessings. From the grand Main Hall with its marble columns and floating staircase to the beautifully manicured gardens, the venue accommodates up to 120 guests for an unforgettable ceremony. With its rich history of hosting spectacular events, the Ballroom at Walcot Hall is the perfect backdrop for your wedding reception. Seating up to 120 for a sit-down meal and 200 for an evening party, the space is as versatile as it is grand. Transform the private courtyard with your chosen décor, enjoy the fire pit, and keep the celebrations alive with live bands, DJs, and even marshmallow toasting under the stars.
Our stunning Ballroom, with its high ceilings and large windows, offers a magnificent space for both your wedding ceremony and reception. The timeless elegance of this room provides the ideal setting for your vows, as well as a grand venue for dining and dancing the night away. For those who dream of an outdoor wedding, our gardens and grounds offer a beautiful space for an al fresco ceremony, surrounded by nature and panoramic views.
The Main Hall has so far proved to be the most popular choice for wedding ceremonies featuring marble columns, ornate ceiling and a floating staircase sweeping into the entrance hall. This room is included in the venue hire for up to three hours and will seat up to 120 guests plus space for standing.
We also welcome ceremonies to be conducted anywhere on the grounds. We have a licensed Summer House on a private lawn in the gardens of Walcot Hall. Couples just need to be aware that if choosing an outdoor ceremony, marriage vows would need to be repeated on licensed grounds after the open-air ceremony in order to make the marriage legal (this does not apply to humanist ceremonies). This could be in the Main Hall, Summer House, Fountain Grotto or in the Ballroom.
For couples who would like a religious ceremony, there are a wealth of beautiful churches and chapels near Ludlow. Our local church, Lydbury North Church is a very beautiful one, it can seat around 200 people and is located at the bottom of the Walcot Hall Drive, in the village of Lydbury North. It welcomes couples to get married there provided all legal requirements are in place.
The Bridal Suite at Walcot Hall offers a romantic retreat for newlyweds on their wedding night, with a complimentary one-night stay included in all 48-hour bookings. Tucked within the family’s private quarters, this elegant bedroom is available from early in the day, ideal for enjoying a pre-wedding moment with loved ones. From the suite, you can make a grand entrance down the sweeping staircase to join your partner and guests, making your special day truly unforgettable.
Unlike many other wedding venues, Walcot Hall offers an extended hire period, allowing you to enjoy up to 48 hours of exclusive access. This means you and your guests can relax and soak in the experience without feeling rushed. With the luxury of time, you can fully enjoy every moment, from the preparations to the after-party.
