      The Chapel

The chapel stands serene and sublime amongst the English oaks and chestnuts of the Walcot Arboretum.

      From £600.00
      Overview

      Converted Chapel Holiday Cottage

Escape to The Chapel, a dog-friendly converted chapel turned into one of the most unusual holiday cottages in the UK. Nestled among towering English oaks and chestnuts in the Walcot Arboretum, this unique woodland retreat combines historic character, cosy interiors, and serene forest surroundings, perfect for couples, small groups, or nature lovers seeking a one-of-a-kind getaway.

      A Walk Into Tranquility

Once destined for demolition, The Chapel has been reimagined with care, creating a serene hideaway. Accessible only on foot via a gentle 500-yard path from the stable block and car park, the journey is part of the magic. Sturdy shoes and a curious spirit are recommended — this path leads to your peaceful escape in the trees.

      Where Stillness Meets Craft

Inside, reclaimed timber floors and walls bring warmth and character to the open-plan living space. A Rayburn, gas cooker, and wood-burning stove provide a cosy heart for cooking and relaxing, while a fridge, TV, and DVD player offer modern convenience. Every detail reflects care and craftsmanship, making it a story-filled holiday cottage.

Elevated Bedrooms and Relaxing Bath – For up to 4 People

A spiral staircase leads to a mezzanine level with two double bedrooms, offering birds-eye views over the lounge. Downstairs, a deep soaking bath with an overhead shower provides a restorative retreat after woodland walks. Central heating ensures warmth throughout the cabin, creating a snug, welcoming environment.

      Dog-Friendly Accommodation

As with all Walcot Hall retreats, The Chapel welcomes four-legged guests. Let your dogs explore the surrounding arboretum and share in the calm, making this woodland cabin a fully inclusive getaway.

A Place of History and Imagination

As seen on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces Christmas Special (2013), The Chapel is a tribute to restoration, imagination, and reverence for place. Its combination of historic charm, woodland seclusion, and cosy interiors make it one of the UK’s most unusual places to stay.

      Tips for Visiting

      – Bring a torch and wellies — lighting along the path is limited, especially after rain.

      – Take your time to enjoy the woodland walk; it’s part of the Sanctuary’s charm.
