Ram Baa Shepherd Hut is one of ten ‘Hidden Treasures’ and sits right in the middle of the arboretum, surrounded by beautiful trees and nature.
A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Arboretum
Tucked among the whispering trees of Walcot Hall’s enchanting arboretum, Ram Baa is a charming, rustic shepherd’s hut that offers a truly off-grid escape. With leafy views on all sides and nature as your nearest neighbour, this is where time slows down and simplicity takes centre stage.
Inside, you’ll find a snug and thoughtfully designed space, with a double bed, bench seating, clever storage, and a camping stove for morning cuppas or simple twilight meals.
Ram Baa doesn’t feature an indoor wood burner so layers are always a good idea.
Surrounded by the gentle hush of woodland, you’re just a short wander from two hidden pools—glimmering, secret spots perfect for quiet contemplation or a refreshing dip. Don’t forget to visit the Great Douglas Fir too—at over 17ft wide and 100ft tall, it’s a breathtaking guardian of the arboretum.
True to the Walcot spirit, Ram Baa is off-grid, so while there’s no electricity, the hut glows with the warm twinkle of fairy lights once the sun dips below the trees.
Nearby, you’ll find a wooden-clad cabin with hot showers and flushing loos, as well as a compost loo even closer for late-night dashes. There’s a shared outdoor kitchen just a short walk away with everything you need to prepare simple meals: gas burners, running water, cutlery, and the essentials—tea, coffee, and sugar.
We provide bed linen, but please bring your own towels.
You’re very welcome to bring a BBQ, and if you’re packing a cool box, there’s a communal freezer near the Estate Office where you can refreeze your blocks.
Ram Baa is nestled deep in nature, and we recommend coming prepared. A torch is essential for after-dark arrivals, and sturdy footwear is a must—especially if the weather’s been wild. Wellies make wandering even more joyful in the wet.
Every corner of Walcot Hall welcomes four-legged guests, and Ram-Baa is no exception. Let them roam, rest, and adventure alongside you.
Tucked away in a quiet corner of the grounds, our charming Shepherd’s Hut is your cosy countryside hideaway. Perfect for peaceful escapes, wild swims, and starry-night campfires – all with a touch of rustic charm.
